How to raise your children to be independent adults

Cleaning & Organizing the Bedroom

As a child, I dreaded the task of cleaning and organizing. My mother wasn't consistent either, she would come into my room at random and if the room wasn't pleasing to her eye she would start pulling clothes from the drawers and throwing them on the floor and then leave me to clean them up, she might of showed me once how to fold them but then leave me in the room to clean up and warned me; I'd better not come out until that room is spic n' span.

Once a year, preferably before school starts, make a day of cleaning and organizing your child's room, with your child involved. Start as early as preschool, teach them what is okay to get rid of; old socks, undies, pj's, even their favorite toys, or re purpose them into artwork. As an adult, make an authoritative decision on what stays and goes, and tell the child why you are donating their things and why too much, or too many of one thing is a bad thing. They might not understand it but they will appreciate that you're making an effort to communicate, and making them part of the project is huge in responsibility and a process of growing up. Do this with them, and do this for yourself, because you are setting an example.
Block off two or four hours to complete this project, use a timer; if it takes longer than four hours, your child has too big of a room and or too many things and you've failed as a parent. That's okay, we all learn from our mistakes; just remember, what you give them in concrete fun ends up in the cluttered bedroom.Take breaks and spend time with your children. Make lunch, watch a movie, go get some exercise. Most kids can't focus as long as adults, it's okay, work on small spots in the room like under the bed or just the dresser. The more you accomplish together, the faster the day will go by.  Don't freak out about color coordination or size and proportion, or hospital corners, these skills they'll pick up on their own if they want to, remember it's their room not yours.

A child's room should only occupy the following, a bed, a dresser, a lamp, a full length mirror, a small desk, chair and a bookshelf. Entertainment: radio, alarm clock, laptop if necessary, no TV is required, it just causes distraction. Keep the bookshelf stocked with books, magazines, and art supplies or resource manuals. A calendar is a great way to show them their responsibilities.

On a weekly basis, you should show your children how and repeat every week, one day a week, for a more consistent cleaning routine.  Case point: is that they know how to do it; making the bed, picking up after themselves; whether it be school, or clothes, or toys, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the bathroom, so when guests come over, they know how to be presentable.  Teaching them at an early age such as 3, will instill great behavior later in life; plus you won't be stressed while having your children run wild through the house.

My Frog Prince

So I think I found the one, which is why I haven't been writing so often, but just in-case we stop seeing each other, note to self: he is the perfect role model for little boys of the world. Stay in touch to interview how he was raised and how he treats woman.

Anyways, his name is Steven and he's a pisces and we talk on the phone about three times a day for at least 20 minutes. We have so much in common, he wants to learn to dance, and loves board games and playing cards. He finished the scouts and is an accomplished Eagle Scout. He works as a Sous Chef for the Double Tree Hotel in Orange. I met him through OKCupid.com and we met on July 16 2012. I can't wait to get to know him deeper, and spend my free time with him, he even still opens my car door. So far we are waiting on sex, and as much as I am attracted to him, I am not infatuated with him, which makes my feelings so much more understandable. FINALLY, I found a great guy! He's Italian, Mexican, and many more, but handsome to me.

Family Dynamics

Ya know how you go through your adolesence and you think your family just doesn't understand you? Well I feel that way any time I'm around my family, and especially around my parents or during family gatherings. I just have anxiety.  I can deal with them individually, but as a group I get overwhelmed. Anytime a conversation starts, and I chime in, I always get interrupted, or someone else has to one-up me and my words aren't validated, or even worse; I get my thoughts tangled and my words come out backwards, and I say things that aren't what I mean to say. Plus having a bad long term memory doesn't help. I can't remember detailed things from long ago, I can remember the general story, but my siblings especially Brian, loves to make fun of me for it.
So I generally just sit and listen. I've become an observer. I become critical of myself, because of the vocabulary I don't know, or the topics I'm not familiar with and I just listen. Actions Speak Louder than Words.

I can only handle my family in small doses. When planning a family vacation, I just want to run away.  This past winter, I spent a whole month with my family, and wanted to kill myself. I told myself I would never do that again.  Today my brother Andy and Tara, his girlfriend; had to leave for Chico and my mom brought up Christmas plans. So Tara brought up that her dad rented a house for the entire winter up in Tahoe, CA, and when would we like to go up? Considering my last run in with winter and the snow, I was not thrilled to go. Then for Christmas? forget about it!?! Even having breakfast with them for an hour and a half has put me in a funk, enough to write this. I told them if it was for a week, I wouldn't not go. For two days, I was good to go. They just don't understand. Then they persisted to ask me where I wanted to go? I told them they didn't want to know. (Because, it's not where I go, it's who I'm with). In the mountains in the cold, I can't escape. In the sea, I can escape anytime I want, I need my time away from them, and I need a lot of it per day if I'm trapped in a certain location with them. I think I'm gunna call Andy and Tara and explain.

Diary of a Poor Little Rich Girl

I have this idea to document my journey this year, to health and happiness.  I want to document everything, from emotions, eating, exercising, social life, family life, school, work, and the unsaid.  I want to change in this world of conformity, listen to my body, learn how to time manage, relax, plan meals, and how not to get stuck in a suburban lifestyle. I want to capture what has worked for me and what I believe against the facts. I want to be consistent. Diary of a poor little rich girl, and my white problems will some day inspire other woman to want to change too.

I was raised to be a woman

Did I say ok too quickly
will he respect me in the morning
am I a slave of attraction

I was raised to please you
I cry every time, after
treat me well and I shall not question
why am I afraid
I did nothing wrong
I did nothing wrong

I want to change my mind
will you make me bleed
I need to say no

I was raised to be ignorant
I was raised not to cry
I was raised to be slient
I was raised to be submissive

Men Vs. Women

Facebook Post on my wall from Loli Perez and my response

LP: Why does a guy come at you all strong, tell you you're beautiful every day, cuddle all night, randomly yet frequently says sweet things to make your day a little brighter and is noticably happy to see you...but after he already knows he has you, all that stuff goes out the window? Is it "The thrill of the chase?" Because if really you really want her to stay around, you'll keep chasing her...

ME: did you sleep with him too soon? That usually changes instantly.  For all the normal guys out there that just get tired of saying those things; we as women need to treat them like children and notice when their doing something right. Let him know that whatever he did, makes you feel special and you APPRECIATE HIM! Also work on complementing him when he does all the unnoticeable things, (like calling or texting just to say hi) soon the "you're pretty" comments will come back. We as woman are programed to expect the man to do nice things no matter what, it's their job. Stop expecting, their just human and they need gratitude just like we do.

I thrive on learning new things, embracing my idiosyncrasies, and thinking about my cognitive thinking.  The biggest obstacle in my life is myself, watching irrelevant TV programs, listening and involving myself with irrelevant people, and lack of focus. My dream job is to work for a corporation drawing up floor plans for small spaces, space planning and organization of furniture/built-ins.  I one day would like to own a small farm, where my family and I could live entirely off the land, learning the survival skills of life, and protecting the earth with our Eco-friendly ways. For now I plan to finish my Interior Design Degree in two years, find love and start a healthy relationship, and find a sustainable career in my field.
